Testosterone và suy giảm trí nhớ

Chúng ta cứ tưởng testosterone tác động vào hệ sinh dục, làm cho “các cơ quan ban ngành” này lớn lên và thực hiện nghĩa vụ sinh sản. Không ngờ nó tác dụng hầu khắp các cơ quan, từ trong tới ngoài bao gồm cả lông, tóc, móng, da và nội tạng.

Một phát hiện mới đây cho thấy vai trò của testosterone đối với việc cải thiện trí nhớ. Chương trình nghiên cứu sức khỏe thuộc Đại học Monash (Australia) đã nghiên cứu bổ sung testosterone nhằm cải thiện chức năng não và phục hồi trí nhớ cho những người thiếu hụt testosterone. Nghiên cứu nhận thấy rằng : testosterone giúp bảo vệ các neuron thần kinh và làm tăng cường oxy cho não. Càng lớn tuổi nồng độ testosterone trong não càng giảm là nguyên nhân gây ra chứng suy giảm trí nhớ.

Các nhà khoa học tại Đại học Hồng Kông nghiên cứu tình trạng trí nhớ của 153 người tình nguyện thì thấy : những người trí nhớ giảm và sa sút trí tuệ (Alzheimer) đều có nồng độ testosterone trong máu thấp. Vậy bao nhiêu là bình thường?

Nồng độ testosterone ở nam giới trưởng thành từ 260-1.000 mg/dL. Đây là thời điểm testosterone bài tiết nhiều nhất khiến các chàng trai mới lớn khoái yêu đương và luôn muốn tiến tới cái đích tình dục. Sau 20 tuổi mỗi năm hàm lượng testosterone giảm 1-2%. Ở bất kỳ độ tuổi nào nếu hàm lượng testosterone giảm< 200 mg/dL thì ham muốn tình dục giảm cùng với tình trạng buồn bã, khí sắc không còn tươi tắn, mất ngủ và phản ứng chậm trong mọi tình huống. Khi bà xã yêu cầu “ sinh hoạt” thì “cậu nhỏ” cũng “ khó đứng lên” làm việc. Có anh vội vã dùng các loại thuốc ức chế men PDE5 (alpha reductase) lại không hiệu quả mà chỉ có thể dùng testosterone. Tất nhiên phải xét nghiệm và có sự theo dõi của bác sĩ nam khoa. Nếu tự ý dùng quá liều ( giống như coi thường lãnh đạo) thì “ hai ông đạo diễn tinh hoàn” sẽ lì ra không làm việc nữa.

Đương nhiên muốn bổ sung cần phải định lượng xem thiếu bao nhiêu, khám tổng quát rồi mới quyết định liều lượng theo kiểu nhỏ giọt chứ không thể uống hay chích ào ào được.

Vậy các chàng trai dưới 30 tuổi than chán đời, động chút là bỏ việc, tìm lãng quên trong những chất kích thích phải chăng do thiếu hụt testosterone? Vụ này có nhiều nguyên nhân như gia đình bất hòa, thất bại trong công việc, trong tình yêu….Tình cảm ảnh hưởng đến hệ nội tiết khiến testosterone tạm thời sụt xuống. Nếu tự thân họ vượt qua được stress thì testosterone sẽ hồi phục. Nhưng một số trường hợp không thể vượt qua bèn sa đà vào ma túy chẳng hạn. Hễ có ma túy thì họ hưng phấn tình dục, hết ma túy lại rơi vào buồn chán. Vì thế cai nghiện cùng lúc phải định lượng testosterone để dùng những tác nhân kích thích tế bào Leydig hoạt động và bài tiết testosterone trở lại. Đó là cách vẹn toàn khôi phục ý chí và bản lĩnh đàn ông cùng trí nhớ đã bị ma túy làm cho lu mờ đi.

Các nhà tâm thần học định nghĩa trí nhớ “ là quá trình tâm lý phản ánh vốn kinh nghiệm của con người dưới hình thức biểu tượng bằng cách ghi nhớ, giữ gìn, nhận lại và nhớ lại những điều mà con người đã trải qua”. Giữ gìn trí nhớ là việc mà ai cũng mong muốn. Có hai cách giữ gìn: Giữ gìn tiêu cực: là dựa trên tri thức lặp đi lặp lại nhiều lần một cách đơn giản, thụ động những tài liệu cần ghi nhớ. Giữ gìn tích cực : bằng cách lặp lại trong óc những tài liệu đã ghi nhớ, không cần tri giác tài liệu đó. Theo thời gian các neuron thần kinh sẽ bị thoái hóa dần, nếu bổ sung testosterone giống như “ sâm của neuron” giúp chúng vẫn nhanh nhạy và giữ được trí nhớ thì đó là giải pháp mà mọi người đều mong muốn. Hy vọng các nhà khoa học sẽ có những công bố rõ ràng hơn trong những năm gần đây.
