(Dân trí) - “Duy trì vận động mỗi ngày bảo vệ chức năng nhận thức ở người cao tuổi” là kết luận được rút ra từ hai nghiên cứu gần đây nhất ở Mỹ và Pháp.

Ở nghiên cứu đầu tiên, các nhà nghiên cứu thuộc Viện nghiên cứu Sunnybrook (Toronto, Mỹ) đã theo dõi 197 người già với độ tuổi trung bình 75. Mục đích của việc theo dõi là để làm sáng tỏ mối liên kết giữa vận động thể chất (được xác định bằng cách đo năng lượng tiêu hao) với khả năng nhận thức (qua bài kiểm tra trí nhớ có tên gọi Mini Mental State Examination). Kết quả chỉ ra rằng những người cao tuổi tích cực vận động nhất giảm được 90% nguy cơ giảm sút trí lực so với những người vận động ít nhất.

Ở nghiên cứu thứ hai, các nhà nghiên cứu của Quỹ MGEN vì Sức khỏe cộng đồng, trụ sở tại Paris, đã theo dõi 2.809 phụ nữ với độ tuổi trung bình ít nhất 65. Điều đặc biệt là những người tham gia hoặc mắc bệnh tim mạch hoặc có ít nhất 3 yếu tố nguy cơ mắc bệnh tim mạch. Vì vậy, những đối tượng tham gia trong nghiên cứu thứ hai này có rất nhiều nguy cơ bị giảm sút trí lực. Kết quả thu được cho thấy, những người vận động thể chất nhiều nhất (năng lượng tiêu hao tương đương với 30 phút đi bộ/ngày) là những người có nguy cơ giảm sút trí lực thấp nhất.
