Vì sao không nên cho muối vào thức ăn dặm?

Nêm gia vị là thói quen của nhiều bà mẹ khi chế biến món ăn cho trẻ tuổi ăn dặm với niềm tin rằng phải như vậy bé mới ngon miệng. Tuy nhiên, quan niệm này tiềm ẩn nhiều nguy cơ lâu dài cho sức khỏe của trẻ.

Thừa hay thiếu muối đều bệnh

Nồng độ muối cũng như nhiều nguyên tố hóa học khác được giữ ở mức tương đối cân bằng nhờ vào hoạt động của hệ thần kinh, nội tiết, tiết niệu và tiêu hóa. Vì thế, nếu bị thiếu muối ít, cơ thể sẽ tự thích ứng bằng cách làm giảm đào thải natri qua nước tiểu và mồ hôi. Cơ thể cũng sẽ có cảm giác thèm ăn mặn hơn nên sẽ sớm có được lượng muối cần thiết trong cơ thể. Thiếu muối nặng (thường gặp ở những người ra quá nhiều mồ hôi hoặc bị tiêu chảy nặng mà không được bù nước và muối hợp lý) thì có thể dẫn tới chuột rút, hoa mắt, chóng mặt, hôn mê và tử vong.

Ngược lại, thói quen ăn mặn hoặc chế biến mặn các loại thức ăn sẽ làm tăng áp lực thẩm thấu trong máu, cơ thể sẽ có cảm giác khát, dẫn đến uống nước nhiều (quá lượng nước cho phép), tích giữ nước trong cơ thể gây tăng huyết áp. Cơ thể cũng tìm cách tăng đào thải natri qua nước tiểu, dẫn tới mất kali, can-xi và nhiều khoáng chất khác và gây “mệt mỏi” cho hệ bài tiết, làm tăng cường độ làm việc của hệ thống tim mạch, thận và tiết niệu nên sớm dẫn tới suy giảm chức năng hoạt động của các hệ cơ quan này. Bên cạnh đó là các nguy cơ tăng huyết áp, bệnh tim mạch, suy tim, suy thận, loãng xương...

Ăn nhiều muối còn làm tăng nguy cơ mắc bệnh viêm loét dạ dày - tá tràng và ung thư đường tiêu hóa. Đối với những người đã mắc bệnh tăng huyết áp, suy tim, suy thận và suy gan, ăn nhiều muối sẽ làm bệnh tiến triển nhanh hơn.

Chức năng thận của trẻ dưới 1 tuổi rất non nớt và việc nạp quá nhiều muối có thể gây ra các vấn đề nghiêm trọng ở thận. Ngoài ra, cũng có những bằng chứng cho thấy ăn nhiều muối trong giai đoạn ăn dặm sẽ gây tổn thương não bộ.

Nêm muối/mắm khi nấu bột, cháo sẽ tập cho bé thói quen ăn nhiều muối khi trẻ lớn hơn. Hậu quả là bé sẽ phải đối mặt với nguy cơ mắc bệnh cao huyết áp, tim mạch trong tương lai.

Bé dưới 1 tuổi không thực sự cần muối?

Natri và Clo, thành phần chủ yếu của muối, là hai nguyên tố có vai trò hết sức quan trọng trong cân bằng thể dịch trong cơ thể, sự tồn tại và hoạt động bình thường của tất cả các tế bào, hoạt động chức năng của tất cả các cơ quan và bộ phận trong cơ thể. Điều này có nghĩa rằng dù là bé mới sinh hay đã lớn đều cần muối.

Tuy nhiên, tùy vào từng độ tuổi mà lượng muối khác nhau. Cụ thể:

- Trẻ dưới 6 tháng tuổi cần ít hơn 1g muối/ngày

- Trẻ từ 6 tháng tuổi đến 1 tuổi nhu cầu muối khoảng 1g.

- Trẻ trên 1 tuổi cần khoảng 2g.

Trong khi đó, ở các thực phẩm tự nhiên như ngũ cốc, hoa quả, thịt gia cầm, cá, trứng, rau tươi đều có 1 lượng muối nhất định. Với nhu cầu dinh dưỡng của trẻ dưới 1 tuổi, lượng muối trong các thực phẩm này hoàn toàn đáp ứng được nhu cầu muối của cơ thể trẻ.

Còn với các thực phẩm chế biễn sẵn dành cho bé tuổi ăn dặm, bạn nên xem kỹ thành phần muối ghi trên nhãn hàng. Với các công ty lớn và các nhãn hàng có uy tín, hàm lượng muối trong các loại bột ngũ cốc ăn dặm thường được tính toán phù hợp với nhu cầu của trẻ.

Với các loại rau đông lạnh, phô mai, nước sốt, khoai tây chiên, thịt nguội… đa phần đều bổ sung muối, nếu không nói là có hàm lượng muối cao, thì không nên cho trẻ dưới 1 tuổi ăn và nên hạn chế với trẻ trên 1 tuổi.

Việc tuân thủ những nguyên tắc này sẽ giúp bé tránh được thói quen ăn mặn sau này cũng như phòng ngừa được các bệnh về tim mạch trong tương lai.
